INFOGRAPHIC POSTER
New York: At the Heart of the World
The Earth is nothing more than a coordinate system in which every place has its designated latitude and longitude. This infographic poster places New York at 'the heart of the world' and presents the places and sights people would visit if they traveled on the latitude or longitude on which New York City lies.

The locations with equal latitude and longitude coordinates are within 0.5-degree radius.
Did you know that New York City shares the same latitude with several remarkable locations? Among them is the ancient town of Pompeii, famously buried in volcanic ash during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. Similarly, it aligns with Istanbul, the largest city in Europe and uniquely transcontinental in its geography. Additionally, New York's latitude corresponds with Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, which holds the distinction of being the lowest capital in the world. Situated on the shores of the Caspian Sea, Baku sits 28m below sea level, offering a fascinating juxtaposition of geography and history.

Be careful if moving south along this longitude because you will pass through the notorious Devil’s Triangle in the western part of the North Atlantic Ocean, where a number of aircraft and ships are said to have disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Additionally, New York City shares this same longitude with the city of Baracoa in Cuba. It is believed that Baracoa is where Columbus first landed on American soil, making it the very first city of the modern Americas.
